Usually after I workout I like to enjoy something a bit sweet like a cup of yogurt. (Dannon Light & Fit or Yoplait Light are my favorites.) However, today I decided to jazz up my usual snack a bit. There’s nothing groundbreaking about making a fruit smoothie but I wanted to share my quick little recipe because it was tasty, filling and only 145 calories.
What I used:
1 6 oz container of Dannon Light & Fit Peach Yogurt- 70 calories
1/2 banana- 50 calories
1/2 cup sliced strawberries- 25 calories
1/2 cup ice
Blend to your little heart’s content! I like my smoothes more creamy than icy but of course you can add more ice if needed. This made a tall glass of fruity goodness and was totally refreshing after my run.
What do you like to put in a smoothie?

Mmmm that looks tasty. The strawberry, banana, peach combination sounds delicioso
Wow, thanks! I never thought of making a smoothie!
I like to make two kinds of smoothies and they are more hearty varieties that make for great breakfasts or serious snacks. My recipes usually make 2 portions.
Fruit Smoothies
I skip the ice and use frozen fruit, which is usually bought fresh, frozen by me and package for later use.
1/2 cup frozen banana slices
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup non-fat, plain yogurt
2 tablespoons flax meal
2 scoops protein powder (your choice of brand or skip)
About 1 cup some kind of liquid: water, milk, pure juice-like OJ
Blend until well combined.
Cocoa Coffee Smoothie (like Starbucks Vivanno, but cheaper)
I always make extra coffee and freeze some in ice cube trays and put the rest in the fridge for later use.
5-6 coffee ice cubes
1 cup cold coffee
1/2 cup frozen banana slices
1/4 cup milk
2 scoops protein powder
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon agave nectar or your favorite sweetener
Blend until well combined.
If I am feeling more fruity, I will add some frozen blueberries as well.
ooh all the recipes above sound delicious! Especially the coffee one.
I stay away from ice and yogurt in mine… just frozen fruit and ground flax seed mostly. Oh, and spinach! Seriously, it’s a great way to get some extra greens in your diet, and you can’t taste the spinach at all. More here: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/lifestyle/46918937.html
Karen- I’m so trying the coffee one this weekend! And spinach? Really? I’ll have to give that a whirl too. I’m intrigued.
