Run Around Wisconsin

We circumnavigated Wisconsin! Well, not quite.

Amy Kant, Rochelle Van Hart and I ran about 35 miles combined. The Salus Corporate Treadmill challenge was to Run Around Wisconsin this weekend at the RACC Multisport Expo at State Fair. They had 6 treadmills going continuously. You could sign up for half-hour blocks to help them reach the 1,400 mile goal. They wanted to have 12 treadmills but couldn’t get all 12, so they worked with what they had. The three of us signed up for 2 hours each and got to the Expo at 10am Saturday morning to start our journey.

We checked in with the event managers (who were very excited we would be live-tweeting our adventure), hopped on our three side-by-side treadmills and started our journey. We were facing the entire expo so there was lots to look at. It kind of felt like we were in a zoo! We had our phones in hand and began to check Twitter to see all the motivation from our fellow #fitmke’ers — one of them being Tracey who was running on her treadmill at home! The updates were littered with typos and eventually became scarce, as tweeting while running is a bit cumbersome.

Then Amy took over the live updates because I wasn’t getting good cell reception. We kept ourselves occupied by tweeting, talking to each other, talking to strangers, having strangers take our picture, oh, and sweating!

Before we knew it we had completed an hour, and then an hour and a half! Then we were looking forward to Mike and Kay showing up, whom Rochelle was referring to in celebrity style “Mik-Kay”. They came when we had about 15 minutes left and Mike shot this video:

The Salus people were pretty excited that we were live-tweeting the event. When we were finished, Amy had completed 5.5 miles walking, Rochelle had 11.79 miles, and I had 11.34. I went back on Sunday for another 6 miles. All in all, we made it more than halfway around the state!
