Erica Conway can relate to the saying, “The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start, ” coined by John “the Penguin” Bingham. She often jokes that she is a plowhorse amongst gazelles, as most of her running friends are much speedier. She doesn’t mind being the slowest, she’s out there having fun, trying to stay fit, just trying to keep up with the cool kids.

Great post Erica, I will help hold you accountable…I am really loving the accountibility and encouragement with the #fitmke group.
Erica -
Good luck!
If your plans take you that far, I’d recommend the Lakefront Marathon over Chicago, especially if you aren’t an elite runner. I attempted Chicago as my first full marathon and got to experience the massive breakdown that occured in 2007, not enough liquids in the right places.
If you want to get out of town, I highly, highly recommend the Grand Rapids marathon – which I finished three weeks after Chicago. It’s a gorgeous course, and very well run. The race director will congratulate you BY NAME as you finish.
I need to get off my own but and start training again.
Great post Erica! Honest, motivating and now making yourself accountable by posting your goals for the world to see. Good luck with training and we’ll see you on May 1st!
GO INDIANS!
(Class of ’96)
Great post Erica. As awful as it sounds – sometimes it’s great (in this arena!) to hear about someone else’s struggles as much as it is other’s successes!
Helps make it all seem more realistic!
And to follow suit,
Go Indians!
(Class of ’02)
Thanks to all those Mukwonago Indian Alumn for the support! We’re everywhere! Seriously, the pressure of following through for the anonymous masses is even more compelling than taking care of myself, or so it feels. I really love it when I’m in the midst of a work out, it’s GETTING OFF my butt that takes the real effort! Here’s to FITMKE for helping us all get moving!
Erica,
Great post – I, too, find your commitment inspiring. I know how hard it can be to 1) make the time 2) keep the stress of business in check 3) keep (stress) eating in check!
I’m not a runner. Never have been. Tried high school track (East Troy, very close to you) and sucked, big time. Have been in good enough shape to really do significant runs only twice in my life, and now is definitely not one of those times. But hell, you just might inspire me to try running again.
I’ll do my weigh-ins in the privacy of my own bathroom, thank you very much, but #fitmke is cool. : )
