“I Drink, Therefore I Run”

Stephanie is a 31-year-old mother of one 9-year-old girl, a registered nurse, an on-again/off-again smoker (mostly on), and a moderate drinker. She would like to Represent for all of us out there who are, shall we say, more moderate in our fitness goals. Her goal is to keep it real and serve as a voice for those of us who will likely never run a half-marathon, let alone a full, but who struggle to maintain at least a moderate regimen. You can find her on Twitter as @stephjothor.

Sunday Funday Runday!

****

Hey Runners! I bet you’ve seen pictures like this:

and this:

and thought, “Maybe I’ll join them sometime…”

Well, if you’re free this Sunday at 9am, Fit Milwaukee has a whole crew getting ready to run by the Lakefront. It’s mostly ladies so far, and we’re running at varied paces between 9-11min miles and distances from 3 to 13+ miles. We’re a friendly, laidback bunch so we’ll sort of play it by ear.

Meet us at the Lake Park parking lot (in front of the Bistro). We normally run down the lakefront path along Lake Drive, near the Art Museum and . . . → Read More: Sunday Funday Runday!

Hunger Pains

When it comes to weight loss everyone always says it’s about calories in/calories out. You need to burn more than you eat. If you follow this line of reasoning far enough it can be tempting to keep cutting more and more calories in hopes of producing faster weight loss results. Sounds good, right? Not quite. Restricting your caloric intake too much can actually have more negative effects than positive. Consider this:

Slowed metabolism: The human body is smart. It adapts in order to say alive. If you restrict calories too far the body starts to freak out and . . . → Read More: Hunger Pains

Baby Steps to the Workout

Ever have those days where days you can’t bring yourself to go to the gym? I have those all the time! For example, I did not want to go for a run this morning. I sat around and checked my email and refreshed Twitter until I could barely stand it. I frequently argue with myself about whether or not to go work out, and how I could rearrange my schedule to make up the missing workout.

It’s different when you can’t squeeze in your workout because of a long day at work, a sick child, or the need for another hour of . . . → Read More: Baby Steps to the Workout

Frostbite 5k in Nashota

So you want to run a 5k this weekend? Join Fit Milwaukee at the Frostbite 5k in Nashota!

Nashota is nestled between the cities of Delafield, Oconomowoc and the Village of Okauchee. This course is a scenic out and back with rolling hills. There will be refreshments and live music by The Whiskey Belles afterward.

It’s really fun going out to these remotely located, smaller races, not only because of the potential for awesome quick road trips with your running buddies, but also because we have a better chance of placing in our age groups when there is a lower . . . → Read More: Frostbite 5k in Nashota

Running Injuries 101: IT Band Syndrome

Nobody like to think about getting injured, but if you run/train/workout a lot you do run that risk. Runners in particular can experience a host of nagging injuries- myself included- especially when increasing weekly mileage. I’d like to highlight a few common injuries you may experience as well as how to treat them. This week I’m beginning with something called Iliotibial band syndrome or IT Band Syndrome.

Ilio- WHAT? The iliotibial band is a tough group of fibers that run along the outside of the thigh- extending out of the pelvis, down over the hip and attaching to . . . → Read More: Running Injuries 101: IT Band Syndrome
