Body Image and Parenting

I have two daughters, ages 6 and 9 1/2. Like all parents I try to be a positive role to my kids- especially with it comes to health and fitness. My older daughter is in fourth grade now though and we’re already starting to enter one of the territories I’ve been fearing ever since the ultrasound tech told me, “It’s a girl!”. No, I’m not talking about dating and boys. I’m talking about body image.

Ugh, right? Does it really start that early now? Thinking back to my own childhood i have to admit: yes it does. I . . . → Read More: Body Image and Parenting

AJBombers offers up three great #fitmke menu items

Streetza Pizza isn’t the only local business marketing to the FitMilwaukee movement. Everyone’s favorite Twitter-friendly bar, AJ Bombers, is dishing up three tasty (and healthy) alternatives to a traditional burger.

Veggie Burger: 350 calories*, $5

First up to the plate is the AJ Bombers Veggie Burger. Coming in at just under 350 calories, the veggie burger was a spicy surprise. I haven’t eaten a lot of veggie burgers in my day, so I don’t have much of a reference to compare this to. But, I like spice and this veggie burger was a welcome surprise of flavors in my mouth. It was a li’l . . . → Read More: AJBombers offers up three great #fitmke menu items

Sobriety as a Healthy Lifestyle Change

Over a year ago I decided to stop drinking. I had spent one too many mornings wondering what I did the night before. I will certainly never judge those who choose to drink, I can promise you that. But if you are in the mood to stop, here’s a few more reasons why.

Recommitting to Being Fit: Erica Conway

Erica Conway can relate to the saying, “The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start, ” coined by John “the Penguin” Bingham. She often jokes that she is a plowhorse amongst gazelles, as most of her running friends are much speedier. She doesn’t mind being the slowest, she’s out there having fun, trying to stay fit, just trying to keep up with the cool kids.
