All of the sudden we went from spring to summer! If the weather stays this warm, it’s pretty easy to know what to wear: as little as possible! But it can be tricky when we get surprises like rain, humidity, or severe weather. Below are some situations you may encounter and what to do. And here’s a tool from Runner’s World that can help you determine what to wear.
Working out in warmer weather:
If it’s cool when you start but you warm up once you’re out there, you can shed a layer . . . → Read More: Warm Weather Workouts

I have always left my house and headed west. I do a warmup mile around the park and once that’s done, I’m basically free to roam. Lately I’ve been trying to find new routes, because the thought of running the same route all the time gets me bummed out. I live only a mile from the lake, but I try to save that route for the weekends, because that’s one that I never want to get sick of!
When you leave your house, do you always head the same direction and do the same route? . . . → Read More: Fun with Running Routes

Holy heat wave Milwaukee! If you were exercising outdoors this past weekend you may have noticed a little something extra during your workout. I’m talking about SWEAT. Kinda gross, yes, but now that the weather seems to be heating up it’s more important than ever to stay hydrated while out in the sun. If you are a runner, a good rule of thumb is to take in 6 to 8 ounces of fluid every 20 minutes. This may sound like a lot but once those temperatures begin to climb you’ll begin to dehydrate very quickly. Dehydration can cause fatigue . . . → Read More: How To: Carry Hydration

I ran a marathon this past weekend. It was my second time doing so and without going into a long, personal story that belongs elsewhere, I do want to share some things I have learned throughout the process of training and racing such a distance two times. I guess you could say that all those hours of training really gives you time to think things over! Seriously though, I truly feel that the discipline and commitment required in order to run 26.2 miles can be applied not only to running but to other areas of physical fitness and in . . . → Read More: Marathon Recap: Tips for Success

If you’re embarrassed by underwear talk, move on to the next blog. We’re talking about ladies underthingies and working out. Gentlemen, take a deep breath.
This is a question I’ve had for awhile, but I didn’t really know how to bring it up.
What is the best underwear to wear when working out?
The few times I’ve worn a pair of cotton underwear to work out, I’ve regretted it. So, I know that those are definitely out (I only have a few anyways, I prefer the good stuff). I’ve already moved beyond cotton socks and am slowly working . . . → Read More: Exercise and Underwear: Decisions, Decisions

I’m writing this on Mother’s Day so naturally my kids are on my mind. I have two daughters, ages 6 and 9 1/2. I’ve written before about girls and body image and how it scares the bejeezus out of me,but today I wanted to talk about the positive things I’ve been able to do with my kids to help them stay healthy. With childhood obesity approaching alarming levels, I’ve always encouraged my kids to have active lifestyles that are above all, fun! Fact: Kids love exercise as long as it’s not labeled as so. Sports, outdoor games, . . . → Read More: Fit Kids

I am not in the physical shape I would like to be in, but I am getting closer. Step one to getting towards where I want to be was eliminating any possible excuse I had not to work out. I achieved that by signing up for Anytime Fitness, which is down the block from my apartment and open 24 hours a day.
The next step was actually going, and it took a few months to develop a rhythm, but since I got it I haven’t really lost it. Anytime Fitness has a wealth of equipment from . . . → Read More: Gym Review: Anytime Fitness
