It’s not really summer until the pools are open right? Well, if you’re someone who has been waiting patiently to take a dip in the water you’re in luck this weekend. Milwaukee County Park pools officially open for the season on Saturday, June 19th! Most locations are open daily from 1-5pm with admission only $2 for anyone 12 and over, $1 for kids ages 3 to 11 and the little ones under 3 are freebies. For those of you looking for an outdoor pool to swim some laps, Wilson Park Recreation Center at 4001 S. 20th St. has an Olympic sized 8-lane, 50 meter pool. It’s only $3 for a lap swim session so stop putting off that triathlon training already, eh? You can find all the information you need about indoor, outdoor, and lap swimming pools at the Milwaukee County Parks website.
If the beach is more your thing then why not head down to Family Day, this Sunday at Bradford Beach? There will be tons activities and games for the whole family including a sand castle building contest and a treasure hunt as well as a rock climbing wall and of course, volleyball. The fun will be happening from 12-3pm on Sunday, June 20th. If you can’t make it this weekend, Family Day will be a monthly event all summer long so check out the Activities section on friendsofbradfordbeach.org for future dates and details.
But maybe you really just want to relax by the water? The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center will be having a “Summer Sailstice” Open House on Saturday, the 19th at their new facility located in Veteran’s Park. There will be a public open house where you can tour the brand new Sailing Center from 11 to 4pm, plus free sailboat rides! Later on there will be a barbecue dinner as well as live music and dancing on the waterfront. All the info you need on the event can be found here.
Of course, hopefully many of you already have plans this weekend to participate in The Great Milwaukee Race. Registration is now closed- we sold out the event!- so now all we have left to do is cross our fingers for good weather on Saturday. The race is on rain or shine and either way it’s bound to be a fun day.
Have a great weekend- whatever your plans may be!
