Registration is open: 2011 Instep Icebreaker Indoor Marathon

This race takes place at the Pettit National Ice Center, and has received acclaim from Running Times and has achieved the Boston Marathon standard for qualifying!

Last January, a team of Fit Milwaukee runners joined up to take part in the relay event of the premier indoor marathon in the country!  Check out this video by Jim Raffel:

Now’s your chance to join up this year!

Registration for the 3rd annual InStep Icebreaker Indoor Marathon & Half Marathon is open! on Active.com.  The events will be held on January 22-23, 2011, at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Icebreaker is the largest indoor marathon in the United States with a capacity of 130 runners.  The track, which goes around the US Olympic Speedskating Oval at the Pettit Center, is 443 meters.  Runners will need to complete 95.4 laps on the USATF-certified course to complete the full marathon.  The marathon, which will be held on Sunday, has sold out each year.  It has been given Boston Marathon qualifying status, making it the first indoor marathon to receive such recognition.

For the second straight year, there will be back-to-back half marathons on Saturday morning.  Last year, both were filled to capacity.

Forty slots in both the marathon and half marathon will be reserved for runners wishing to compete in the Gold Medal Challenge.  This is for runners who complete both the half marathon and full marathon.

In keeping with the Olympic theme of the Pettit Center, bronze medals are awarded to half marathon finishers, silver medals are given to full marathon finishers, and gold medals to those who finish both races.

After the half marathons on Saturday, there will be a marathon relay.  Over 70 teams competed in the event in 2010.

New this year is a Friday night 5K race on January 21!
