Join the FitMilwaukee Indoor Marathon Relay Team

As you may have heard, registration is now open for the InStep Icebreaker Indoor Marathon Relay race on January 22, 2011. Last year, FitMilwaukee had two teams participating and this year we want to blow it out of the frozen water.

Relay teams consist of 2 to 4 runners. The field is limited to 100 teams. Runners will be chip-timed. Relay legs can be any length and we will be using a “tag team format” where you can switch runners as often as you would like. Teams must complete 95.4 laps, which is equivalent to a full 26.2 mile marathon. All registrants will receive a long-sleeve performance shirt and a canvas goodie bag.

Because the field is limited to 100 teams, we need to get organized asap. If you would like to be on one of the FitMilwaukee Relay Teams, please fill out this form by September 1, 2010.

We are looking for teams of 4. There will likely be gender-mixed teams. Each team captain will be responsible for registering their team. Got questions? Post a comment below.

tag team sounds wild. I wonder if some teams will tag off every 5 laps. Doing short distaces like that seems the obvious way to run your fastest time. Is that fun also?

  • Last year we did 3-mile legs which was about 12 laps. Each team member had to do this twice. Shorter distances would be awesome though. I bet it would be super fun.

Doug that is a fabulous idea! I think we’ll leave it up to the teams to decide how they want to split up the miles. Tag team sounds like sooo much fun!

I don’t know if it would be more fun. It would be faster, no doubt. But it also could get annoying and confusing. Also 3+ hours of a series of hard tempo runs with long recovery time would be hard for the average person to train for. But if they ever got a group of really fast people out there who really wanted to do this I could see some team running a 2:15 tag team relay.

  • Oh, this sounds fun! I would love to do it if a team gets put together, and if they no one minds my slowness!

I’m pretty excited for this. I’ve been wanting to get involved with the Mke running community, and this seems like the perfect opportunity!
