If you were on one of Fit Milwaukee’s marathon relay teams you may have noticed one of these nifty FitMKE logo window clings in your race bag. But even if you missed the event you can still get one! Fortunately we have a few extras that we’re looking to give away this week. The first ten people to comment below answering the following question will receive a FREE cling: “Who or what inspires you to work out on those tough days when you’d rather just stay in bed?” Stick it on your car window and show your love for Milwaukee-style fitness . . . → Read More: FitMKE Freebie!

As the Indoor Marathon relay teams began to pack into the Pettit Center on Saturday, I suddenly became a person who hugs everyone. Fit Milwaukee had put together 10 teams for the event, but being part of the running community in Milwaukee means you start to see lots of friends at every event. I saw so many familiar faces, so many smiles, so much excitement! I could tell the energy was good, if bit nervous. I often tell people that being nervous is a good thing, it means you’re about to do something that’s important to you.

There’s been big buzz in the running community lately about a little documentary called Hood to Coast. If you haven’t heard, it follows four very different teams of runners (ranging from beginners to old timers) who participated in a 197-mile relay race from the top of Mt. Hood to the beach along the Pacific ocean in Seaside, Oregon. That’s twelve runners, two stinky vans, and miles upon miles of rough, scenic terrain. After viewing the movie with friends on January 11th in a one-time-only screening that was shown simultaneously in many cities across the country, the internet was a-twitter with folks . . . → Read More: The Draw of the Super Ultra Mega Relay

I’m sure that you’ve heard eating a variety of foods all with different hues is good for your health, but exactly why is eating a rainbow of colors important? Many necessary nutrients are associated with different colors and if your diet doesn’t contain a healthy mix of all of the colors, then you’re almost certainly lacking vital nutrients.

Have you ever wanted to participate in a triathlon but found yourself intimidated by one of the events? Whenever I talk to people about “tris” the most common thing I hear is from them is, “I’d love to do one someday but I don’t ______.” (Fill in the blank with either “swim”, “bike” or “run.”) As for me, although I run nearly every day, I haven’t swam a lap since I was probably twelve years old. Add in the fact that my bike has pink flames painted on it and a wicker basket on the front and . . . → Read More: Tri for Your Heart at the YMCA
