Group Fitness Deals: Win or Waste?

It happened again the other day. Another fitness-related Groupon fell into my inbox. A few months ago I would get wide-eyed and snatch them up right away, but today’s deal was simply met with a blank stare followed by a *SIGH*.

I can’t even say any bad things about the Groupons and Living Social deals I’ve purchased for various places around town. In fact, every place I’ve been to has been just great. The ones I actually redeemed, that is. And that is precisely the problem. I get super excited at the idea of trying a new bootcamp, . . . → Read More: Group Fitness Deals: Win or Waste?

For Your Holiday Sweet Tooth

You can’t really get through the holidays without encountering Christmas cookies. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you how many calories are in your favorite.*) If you’re like me though, you don’t want to spend hours and hours in front of the oven concocting treats. One of my favorite things to whip up for my friends this time of year is sugared pecans. I’ve been making them for so long that I’m afraid of what will happen if I don’t bake them. And here’s the thing: they are beyond easy to make- even for someone who is admittedly baking/cooking impaired. Plus, pecans are good . . . → Read More: For Your Holiday Sweet Tooth

Holiday Balancing Act

As I’m sure a lot of you out there are, I’m completely wrapped up in holiday preparations and celebrations for the next few weeks. When it comes to this time of year I’m always trying to find the perfect balance between indulging in the things I love and not going completely overboard. It’s know that it’s time to kick back a bit and enjoy the comforts and traditions of the season but I also don’t what to wake up on New Year’s day feeling guilty. And it’s oh-so-easier said than done.

So what’s my approach to the month of December? First of all, I . . . → Read More: Holiday Balancing Act

Holiday Cocktail Tips

This is a re-post from a couple of years ago but the topic seems…apt right now.

It’s cocktail season! This time of year is known for indulgence but there are ways to avoid blowing all of your calories on drinks if you plan accordingly and know what to ask for. In general it’s always better to eat your calories rather than drink them because our bodies don’t register fullness from fluids in the same way we do with food. Here are a few helpful tips for navigating those holiday parties:

Race Bibs: Scrap, Save, or Display?

I’m not much of a pack rat. I love to keep my house neat and I hate clutter. But one thing I can’t bear to part with for some reason is my collection of race bibs. When I first started running 5Ks I used to write the name of the race on the back along with the date and my finish time. I had grand plans of saving them for some sort of race scrapbook I would one day assemble when I had an afternoon to myself. As the race bibs kept piling up though, and the scrapbook remained…unassembled, I started . . . → Read More: Race Bibs: Scrap, Save, or Display?
