Congratulations to Delia and Shelley, our FitMilwaukee.com Color Run winners! Please send an email to amy@fitmilwaukee.com and I will give you instructions on redeeming your prizes!
In case you were wondering what Delia and Shelley’s favorite colors were…
Delia:
I think it’s a tie between pink and chartreuse. I read about the color run as one of the most fun races to do this season. I didn’t realize there was one in the MKE area. I would so love to win!
Shelley:
Pink! I want to get blitzed with color because it just sounds (and looks!) like fun.
Congratulations again! I can’t wait to see your photos . . . → Read More: The Color Run: Winners

Have you caught the Pinterest bug? Did you ever cut photos, articles and inspirational sayings out of magazines and collect them on a bulletin board or in a notebook? Pinterest is the virtual version of that.
I’ve been finding lots of fitness-related pins lately. Some are inspirational sayings, some are quotes, others are workout routines.

Here’s one saying I found on Pinterest that I think is very fitting this week: Do something today that your future self will thank you for.
I don’t know about you, but I look at Thanksgiving as a day to be with my family, eat lots of . . . → Read More: Fitspiration: Be Thankful

Here at FitMilwaukee we love to highlight local fitness events. Frequently, we share news of 5ks and other local races. Today we have something a little different.
Strides for Crohn’s is a 2(ish) mile fun run/walk on November 13, 2011. The event, which benefits the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, is not a race. It’s a fun run with some cool people for a great cause.
What’s a fun run? It’s NOT an organized race. It’s just a group of people getting together to run or walk. No one’s timing you, so there isn’t pressure to go fast. The point is to . . . → Read More: Strides for Crohn’s

My first little seedlings are beginning to sprout! Last weekend, I planted three kinds of tomato seeds and some basil seeds, following a modified version of Ellie Martin Cliffe’s tutorial for starting seeds at home.
I used three nine-inch tin pie pans and some egg cartons.
The ones growing the best used both the egg cartons and pie tin. I filled up the egg carton divots with organic soil, the put it in a pie tin and surrounded the carton with soil. I put some different seeds in the tin than those in the carton.
I have a short metal shelf right next to . . . → Read More: Amy’s Veggie Tales: They’re alive!

The fitness movement (pun intended) is more than running, swimming, biking or any other fitness activity. It’s a whole body care package.
This includes not only what you do with your body but what you put into it.
We’ve touched on the importance of eating vegetables and maintaining a balanced diet before. Now we are coming up on a time of year when fresh produce is in abundance. There’s something to be said for knowing exactly where the food you are eating is coming from.
There’s farmers markets, roadside stands, CSAs… but what about growing your produce – gulp – at home?
This year, FitMilwaukee is going . . . → Read More: Amy’s Veggie Tales: An Introduction

I’ve never been fast. I don’t even know if I’d ever care to be fast.
A lot of times, you hear about how fast people run races. Don’t get me wrong. I have a time goal. It’s just no where near that of my close friends. When they’re running an “easy” 9 min pace, I’m busting my ass trying to keep a sub 15 pace.
I consider myself a runner. I run/walk and I’m ok with that. Of course, I’d love to get to the point where I’m only running and not walking unless I really need a break. But, I like the . . . → Read More: Slow running – it’s the new fast!

Are you a mall walker? Mall walking or jogging is a great way to get some exercise when you don’t want to do it outside or you don’t have a gym membership.
Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa is launching a new club for mall walkers, called the Mayfair Mileage Club. The club will reach out to and reward people who use the mall for their daily workouts.
The club officially launches Monday at 7 a.m. Members of the program will receive a free pedometer and will be invited to keep track of their miles.
When members reach 100 miles, they will receive a Mayfair Mileage . . . → Read More: Mayfair unveils new mall walking fitness club
