Mix It Up with Indoor Cycling

One of my goals this year is to broaden my fitness vocabulary. More simply put: I want to mix things up a bit. Looking back at 2011, I was very proud of reaching my high mileage goal but the months where I had more variety in my workouts I felt like i was happier overall. For the past couple of months I’ve been peppering my schedule with dance classes, boot camps and yoga, and my body has been loving me for it.

Last week I headed out to Mequon to check out a little place called Velocity Cycling Studio. I’ve only ever taken once . . . → Read More: Mix It Up with Indoor Cycling

Better Safe than Sorry

I’m sitting on an ice pack as I write this post. Why? Well… the story is a little dramatic.

I got hit by a car yesterday. As in my actual person was hit. While out on a run.

I told you it was a little dramatic. Luckily, I wasn’t seriously hurt. After a trip to the emergency room and a few x-rays later, I came home with little more than a sore behind and a bump on my elbow.  As I’ve been recovering today though, I’ve had a lot on my mind. For instance:

And the Winners Are…

Wow, thanks so much to everyone who entered our contest last week! You all gave such thoughtful responses as to why you should be selected for our prize that you made it incredibly difficult to choose a winner. In the end we decided that you guys are so great that we would give away TWO half marathon entries (and even then I wish we could have chosen more!)

So first of all let’s congratulate Jerod and Hayley for winning free entries to the Summerfest Rock ‘N Sole Half marathon! Jerod is a husband and father to five kids hoping to restart his training . . . → Read More: And the Winners Are…

Inspiration via Pinterest

Everybody’s talking about Pinterest lately. Amy mentioned it a while back on this blog too. When I initially signed up I got really into pinning motivational fitness photos and mantras. (You can check out my board here.) Lately though when I scroll through people’s fitness pins, my eye has been drawn to all the mini-circuit workouts that are being posted. For example:

I’ve been stuck at home with a sick kid or two a number of times this winter. Each time that has happened I’ve had to motivate myself to get in my . . . → Read More: Inspiration via Pinterest

Rediscovering Food Journaling

For some people eating healthy comes naturally. Others find it easier to exercise consistently but have a hard time being as diligent with diet and nutrition. I’ve always fallen into the latter category. You’ll have to hold me down to get me to take a rest day from running but when it comes to food, I want it all. There was an interesting article in Time magazine a couple of years ago called “Why Exercise Won’t Make You Thin.” While I think the title is a little disingenuous, I could totally relate to some of the points discussed. Summerfest Rock ‘N Sole Run: Under New Management

The following may be a bit of a controversial statement:

I am super excited for this year’s Rock ‘N Sole Run at Summerfest!

No really. Before you guys start, I know what happened at last year’s race. I didn’t run it, but I saw all the tweets coming from the course about the lack of water. I read the race recaps about dehydrated runners and lack of general organization. Oh, and I watched the local news reports. I’m painfully aware of how everything went down last year.

So when I got the opportunity to meet with the race’s new management team, I went in . . . → Read More: Summerfest Rock ‘N Sole Run: Under New Management

Two Events, Two Charities. Something for Everyone!

I have to say I find it a bit strange sitting here in the middle of a 40+ degree January day writing about indoor events to escape from the cold weather. I feel as if winter hasn’t even started yet so talking about “getting away from the frigid temperatures” seems a little… awkward. However, a couple of upcoming events have popped up on my radar that I’m going to share nonetheless- events that should be a good time wither it’s 15 or 150 degrees outside.
