Last week I talked about a number of different boot camps that are going on in the area. But what if you don’t have the time (or let’s face it, the cash) to commit to a month-long program? Or maybe you’re the type of person who needs to know what to expect before making a bigger commitment? Look no further. Ambrose from IMPACT Milwaukee is offering a single-week boot camp session in September for this very purpose. Can’t make it to all three dates? Then just try the one class on Saturday. No excuses! I’m always looking for new and fun ways to work out. Though running takes up the bulk of my fitness schedule it’s nice to work my body in different ways, whether it’s through cross training, yoga, or Pilates. A while back I wrote about my experience trying a boot camp style workout through IMPACT Milwaukee Fitness. Since then I’ve been noticing just how many boot camps there are in the Milwaukee area and that many people I’ve met have had positive experiences working out this way.

I’m in a running funk. I don’t want to run, not even a few miles. I don’t even want to think about running. When I do run, I just think about how miserable it is and how long I’ve been gone and how long til I’m home and what torture it feels like. I dwell on how awful I am at running and how I could be using this time to do something else and how I’ll never get faster so why try? I’m sick of all my routes and tired of doing the same thing all the time.
Depressing, right? Stinky . . . → Read More: Running Funk: When you don’t want to run

Does the thought of a fitness boot camp intimidate you? Maybe you’re more likely to go shopping than try bootcamp. You could do both this Sunday!
The Jewish Community Center is hosting free fitness boot camps every Sunday in the Town Square at the Bayshore Town Center.
The hour-long class is led by certified instructor Heather Prach and will include 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of yoga.
In case of rain, the class will be taught in the center of the mall.

As I’m writing this I’m in pain. You know, that “good” pain you get the day after a particularly intense workout that is your reward (or punishment) for pushing yourself as far as you can go? Well, yesterday I was invited to try out a bootcamp workout through Milwaukee IMPACT and I have to say that trainer/instructor Ambrose W.B. will be the nicest guy to ever kick your butt. I’ve never done this style of workout before and let me tell you by the time I left, I was already trying to figure out in my head how I was going . . . → Read More: Try It: Milwaukee IMPACT Bootcamp!

Today’s motivation comes from Lynn Calicchio as she shares her fitness boot camp experience:
I am not a runner. Never have been, never will be. I admire those who do, but it’s not for me and I imagine that I am not alone. For me, 6 miles on an elliptical for an hour is a true accomplishment, so finding new and fun ways to exercise has been a journey.
I like non-traditional exercise. It started long before I could walk. You see, my Dad is a professional ballroom dance teacher and I literally started to dance before . . . → Read More: Motivation: You Can Do Anything For 30 Minutes!

Last week I had the fun opportunity to try out a NIa class at a lovely wellness studio called Solcare. Wait, huh? What kind of class? Yeah, that’s what I said at first. Nia is a way to condition, heal and express yourself through movement. A combination of dance, martial arts and healing arts (think: yoga) Nia allows you to release emotion through moving your body- and get a good workout in at the same time. Our instructor informed us that on this particular day the theme of the class was “a celebration of movement.” However, I can . . . → Read More: Adventure: Nia Class
