Ever see someone in the gym and wonder ‘What the heck are they doing?’ or ‘How did they come up with THAT’ or ‘I wish I knew some awesome exercises like that. All I do are crunches.’
You’re in luck! You are about to be one of those people that walks around the gym with a sheet of paper and a purpose. Or at least have some idea what to do when you’re creating a workout to do in your own home.
A few weeks ago I stumbled upon GainFitness.com. This tool allows you to select your available equipment, workout time, and area of . . . → Read More: Gain Fitness: Build your own workout

If you want to be a good runner, start with good posture. One way to achieve good posture automatically is to have a strong core. When I say “core” I don’t just mean abs. You don’t have to have a six-pack to be a good runner or walker. But you do need strength in the trunk of your body, from your chest area to your hips!
Here are a few reasons it is necessary to strengthen your core:
Improved balance and stability – Your pelvis, abdomen, hips, and lower back all work in harmony with your core . . . → Read More: A Stronger Core For Improved Running

Because I have a need to keep things fresh in my workouts, on a whim one day a few weeks ago, I tried a quick lunch hour workout. I happened to love it!
Whether you want to mix things up, or if you HAVE to do lunch hour workouts because of time constraints, here are some tips to make the most of your workout. These noon sessions can be good for people who work too early in the morning to get in a workout before work, and are wiped out by the end of the day because of . . . → Read More: Lunch Hour Workouts

“Five more.”
No, I’m not talking about the number of additional M&M’s you allow yourself to have before you put the bag away.
I’m talking about strength training — where it’s the last few reps that count.
During a grueling workout, these are the dreaded words I never want to hear my trainer say. But he says it all the time — to the point where I told him that should be his middle name.
It’s the last reps that make things happen. Skipping them can mean you are not stressing your muscles enough, meaning they will not . . . → Read More: Five More

The Long Walk
Have you heard the expression ‘Golf is a long walk, spoiled’? Disc golf is more than just a long walk, and it’s definitely not spoiled! At Abendschein Disc Golf course in Oak Creek, there is an 18 hole course. I’ve played a few times here, and it’s a ton of fun — and a great FREE outing for the family or just a nice afternoon activity. Most holes are par 3, but as a novice frisbee thrower, I’ve been known to be triple bogey on every hole! I’m not the best disc golfer, but I sure have a good . . . → Read More: Disc Golf: More than just a long walk

If you’re like me you have a routine in place when you go to the gym. You probably stick to your favorite cardio machines- possibly down to a specific treadmill or elliptical that you’ve become a little too attached to. But what about some of the equipment that doesn’t get as much love? At my gym we have one lonely rowing machine. I’ve been a member for years and I’ve seen it sit alone and neglected most every time that I’m there. I’m not even sure why it doesn’t get used as much as the other stuff. Maybe people are afraid that . . . → Read More: Row Your Boat

Are you a Packer fan? Are you into cycling? Well, a fun new class called Pedal the Pack at the South Shore YMCA has found the perfect way to combine the two. Yep, it’s just what it sounds like: an endurance ride throughout the entire football game. What a cool way to cheer on your team and get an insane workout in! And why not burn hundreds of calories instead of consuming them during the game for a change? (Don’t worry you’ll get a chance to take a breather at halftime where everyone is encouraged to bring snacks and water in order to . . . → Read More: Pedal the Pack

Last weekend I was in for a treat. I was able to try out jetskiing for the first time! At first I was scared to get on the jetski because I thought it would tip me into Lake Michigan’s cool August waters. But with a lifevest and a little encouragement, soon I was zipping across the choppy water on my own, getting up to speeds of 50+ miles per hour!

The thing that surprised me was how much of a workout it was. Everything from pushing the jetski away from the shore, climbing . . . → Read More: Jetskiing: A Surprise Workout

Last week I talked about a number of different boot camps that are going on in the area. But what if you don’t have the time (or let’s face it, the cash) to commit to a month-long program? Or maybe you’re the type of person who needs to know what to expect before making a bigger commitment? Look no further. Ambrose from IMPACT Milwaukee is offering a single-week boot camp session in September for this very purpose. Can’t make it to all three dates? Then just try the one class on Saturday. No excuses! Anne and I will be joining the . . . → Read More: Try It: IMPACT Milwaukee Comes to Bay View
