Taking a cue from Anne’s running funk post, I wanted to illustrate a way in which working out and/or running doesn’t have to be a chore but in fact can sometimes be just the opposite. This past weekend we participated in a scavenger hunt called “Adventure in the City” that in a way “tricked” us into running nearly eight miles while we were- get this- having tons of fun. Now you may remember a little event that we helped put on earlier this summer called “The Great Milwaukee Race?” Well, Anne and I were so excited to be able to . . . → Read More: Fighting the Funk: Adventure in the City

As you may have heard, registration is now open for the InStep Icebreaker Indoor Marathon Relay race on January 22, 2011. Last year, FitMilwaukee had two teams participating and this year we want to blow it out of the frozen water.
Relay teams consist of 2 to 4 runners. The field is limited to 100 teams. Runners will be chip-timed. Relay legs can be any length and we will be using a “tag team format” where you can switch runners as often as you would like. Teams must complete 95.4 laps, which is equivalent . . . → Read More: Join the FitMilwaukee Indoor Marathon Relay Team

Have you been wanting to meet up with the Fit Milwaukee crowd but been intimidated by all those miles we run? Well, join us this Sunday morning for a leisurely stroll along the lakefront. We’ll be meeting at 10am at the Lake Park Bistro parking lot and heading out for a 3 to 4 mile loop down Lake Drive and back. No running! We’re hoping to find a group of walkers that want to meet regularly so we’ll talk more about future locations and times while we’re walking. You can either RSVP here or just go ahead and show . . . → Read More: Come Walk With Us

You may have noticed that Milwaukee has been experiencing a sort of “fitness boom”. No longer satisfied being called one of the country’s fattest cities, people in the Milwaukee community are getting up off the couch and whipping themselves into shape. Every weekend you can find numerous running and cycling events while boot camps are popping up all over the city. On Saturday August 7th, Milwaukee Fit Fest will be a great way for everyone in the local fitness community to network and discover new, exciting fitness-related businesses and groups in the Milwaukee area. Held at MOCT in the Fifth Ward, the event will attract . . . → Read More: Are You Ready for Milwaukee Fit Fest?

Most 5k’s are run in the morning and are ‘serious business’. But there is a unique 5k event at night in Milwaukee, it’s the Storm the Bastille 5k! There’s a group of us running it, so look to meet us out in front of Real Chili on Wells before the race. We’ll be meeting at 8pm and probably stay near there until the start of the race.
Runners and walkers kick off Bastille Days with the annual “Storming of the Bastille,” in honor of the 18th century attack on the Bastille prison in Paris. The 5-K run and 2-mile walk will take . . . → Read More: Storm the Bastille 5k Fun Run

The Lakefront Marathon is officially full for the season. But whether you are running the Lakefront marathon or another marathon, or not running a marathon at all, you can come down and join the Badgerland Striders‘ Saturday morning buildup runs. You can run with the group whether you are a member or not; all that is asked is a small donation to help with the cost of putting on these very informal group runs. There are usually about 100 runners or so that participate each week.
I ran with the Striders for nearly every buildup last year and it was an awesome . . . → Read More: Marathon Buildups: Not Just for Marathon Runners!
