Right now I’m in the process of planning out my summer. Although there are tons of events that I’m looking forward to for myself, I’m also wondering what on earth am I going to do to occupy my kids for three whole months? Every spring my mailbox is filled with brochures for summer camps, day camps and classes to choose from. The trick is to narrow it down to what they *really* love so I don’t end up wasting money on classes they’ll end up not liking- summer camps aren’t cheap, amiright? So when I heard about a new . . . → Read More: Bike Kids Wisconsin

Over the past couple of months I’ve been lucky to come into contact with a great little organization called Girls on the Run. Who are they exactly? In a nutshell, they provide a 5K run/walk training program for girls ages 8 to 13 that focuses not only on physical health and fitness, but self-esteem, teamwork and emotional fitness as well. Over the course of 10 weeks the girls participate in running/walking workouts and games that revolve around relevant topics chosen specifically for pre-teen girls. Girls on the Run has all around the Milwaukee Area but this is the first year a site is being . . . → Read More: Girls on the Run Comes to Bay View!

It’s a popular east-coast workout, but now BARRE is here in the Badger State! The Movement Center Pewaukee is the first Wisconsin studio to offer BARRE, an athletic workout specifically designed to strengthen and lengthen the body.
What is BARRE?
Barre classes are fluid athletic workouts specifically designed to strengthen and lengthen, without the bulk. The classes are fueled by upbeat music and efficiently flow through each muscle group creating endurance and stamina through strength training and increased flexibility through stretching. They are challenging, empowering, effective and fun. The movements are influenced by many modalities including classical ballet barre . . . → Read More: BARRE Workout Classes come to Pewaukee

Last week I talked about a number of different boot camps that are going on in the area. But what if you don’t have the time (or let’s face it, the cash) to commit to a month-long program? Or maybe you’re the type of person who needs to know what to expect before making a bigger commitment? Look no further. Ambrose from IMPACT Milwaukee is offering a single-week boot camp session in September for this very purpose. Can’t make it to all three dates? Then just try the one class on Saturday. No excuses! Anne and I will be joining the . . . → Read More: Try It: IMPACT Milwaukee Comes to Bay View

Last week I had the fun opportunity to try out a NIa class at a lovely wellness studio called Solcare. Wait, huh? What kind of class? Yeah, that’s what I said at first. Nia is a way to condition, heal and express yourself through movement. A combination of dance, martial arts and healing arts (think: yoga) Nia allows you to release emotion through moving your body- and get a good workout in at the same time. Our instructor informed us that on this particular day the theme of the class was “a celebration of movement.” However, . . . → Read More: Adventure: Nia Class

Fit Milwaukee welcomes Angie Sorge (a.k.a. @mrsajbombers or “The A” in AJ Bombers) as she dishes on her Pilates training and how it has changed her body for the better:
What is your fitness background?
I became involved in exercise classes at the urging of a friend many years ago. Prior to that I hadn’t been particularly active, especially not on a daily basis. I began taking step classes and loved the group atmosphere. Soon I was taking 4 to 6 step classes per week. It was often many of the same people in each class . . . → Read More: Your Pilates Questions Answered!

Next on my mission to try new things is a Pilates mat class. Ok, so technically this isn’t totally new for me since I took Pilates back in college but it’s been many many years. Trust me. Anyway, when I decided to rediscover my rock hard abs I was pointed in the direction of The Lift Pilates Studio, located inside the Milwaukee Athletic Club downtown. (Don’t worry- you need not be a member of MAC to take a class here.)
First of all let’s get this question out of the way: What exactly is Pilates? The short answer . . . → Read More: Adventure: Pilates Mat Class

This weekend I decided to take a trip over to Invivo FItness–not only to check out the facility but also to try one of their (free!) Sunday yoga classes. First of all I have to say that this was place is a real treat. The gym itself is lovely. It’s a bright, open space with huge windows overlooking the Milwaukee River. Even on a crummy January day in Wisconsin the view and all the natural light that came with it was gorgeous. In addition to the traditional cardio room and yoga/Pilates studio they also have a spa where you . . . → Read More: Adventure: Ashtanga Yoga Class
