Feel the Burn: Dance Workout

Recently I’ve begun taking dance classes again after a long (ok, VERY long) hiatus. I was a dance major in college and have come back to it multiple times over the years not only because I just can’t quit it, but because it really is fantastic exercise as well. Now before you stop reading because you’re thinking to youself “I’ll never be a ballerina” or “I’m just not coordinated to take a dance class,” let’s back up a little bit. Right now I’m taking an intermediate level modern/contemporary class at Danceworks on Water Street.  But that’s not the class I want to talk . . . → Read More: Feel the Burn: Dance Workout

Try It: IMPACT Milwaukee Comes to Bay View

Last week I talked about a number of different boot camps that are going on in the area. But what if you don’t have the time (or let’s face it, the cash) to commit to a month-long program? Or maybe you’re the type of person who needs to know what to expect before making a bigger commitment? Look no further. Ambrose from IMPACT Milwaukee is offering a single-week boot camp session in September for this very purpose.  Can’t make it to all three dates? Then just try the one class on Saturday. No excuses!  Anne and I will be joining the . . . → Read More: Try It: IMPACT Milwaukee Comes to Bay View

Boredom Be Gone

It’s easy to get stuck in a fitness rut. I’ve talked before about the importance of mixing things up to keep your body guessing. This is essentialeven if you’re not trying to lose weight. Not only does your body start burning fewer calories if you do the exact same workout every day, but you also run the risk of growing bored and burning out. . . . → Read More: Boredom Be Gone

Break On Through

Plateau: verb: to reach a state or level of little or no growth or decline, to stop increasing or progressing; remain at a stable level of achievement; level off.

When it comes to weight loss, a plateau is one of the most frustrating things you can encounter. If you’ve been experiencing success for a while, the arrival of the dreaded plateau can really knock the confidence right out of you and make you wonder why you continue to try so hard every day if you’re no longer getting results. After losing weight consistently, to start seeing the scale . . . → Read More: Break On Through

Just Keep Spinning…

Stuck in a rut? Running mindless mile after mile on the treadmill and want to mix things up? Why not try a Spin Class? Spinning is a great way to burn tons of calories, challenge yourself and break up the monotony of the daily “dreadmill” run. I don’t know about you but day after day of doing the same exact thing begins to wear on me so I was very happy to take a stab at spinning last week at Bay View Fitness.

At every gym I’ve belonged to I have always been . . . → Read More: Just Keep Spinning…

Mix It Up

Is the time change killing your workouts? I don’t know about you but this week really had a strange effect on me with the sun setting so early all of a sudden. It seems these past few days that by 5:30pm now all I want to do is curl up with a blanket and a good book. One of my favorite things over the summer was to run by the lake at sunset, but now unless I want to do this in the middle of the afternoon it looks like I’ll have to wait until spring. I’ve been mentally . . . → Read More: Mix It Up
