Lakefront/Lake Drive especially in the morning as the sun is rising.

All of my arm and leg warmers – They’re cute and functional!

Race Day Tips for Indoor Marathon Relay Runners

It’s almost here! After weeks of profiling teams, the Icebreaker Indoor Marathon Relay is THIS WEEKEND! Hopefully if you have registered for Saturday’s event you’re ready for a great race. Does your team have a strategy? Wondering what to expect? Well, we’ve compiled a list of tips for your team to consider. (Some of these may even apply for those of you running the 5K, half or full marathon.)

Meet FitMKE Indoor Marathon Relay Team: Fartleks

Running Since: March 2010!

Miles run per week: I typically run/walk and it varies 9-20. Due to an injury, I haven’t been doing as much lately, but I’m getting there!

Favorite Place to run: Milwaukee’s Lakefront and many trails – Oak Leaf, East Bank, etc. Oh, and I <3 Lakeshore State Park.

Proudest Running Achievement: Finishing a half marathon (Napa 2 Sonoma) in July. It was a struggle, but a truly wonderful experience. It was only my second race ever and I’m still over the moon about the experience.

Meet FitMke Indoor Marathon Relay Team There’s A Lap For That

Running Since: I began running consistently in 2009, and that was the year I made the most strides in fitness and ran my first full marathon.
Miles run per week: I run between 20-30 miles per week. I’m trying to get to a yearly goal of 1500 miles and if I continue with 30 a week I’ll make it by New Year’s Eve.
Favorite Place to run: I love running by the airport! If I time it just right in the mornings I can see the jets lined up to take off one after the other.

Favorite Place to Run: all time = coastal trail in Anchorage Alaska. Currently, Kettle Moraine south when I can get there.
Proudest Running Achievement: I have a tie: running with my sister during her first half marathon, and running 5 half marathons in 2010 in 4 different states!

Deadline extended: Join FitMilwaukee’s Relay Team

I’ve extended the deadline to FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th at NOON for people to register to be on a FITMKE Indoor Marathon Relay team. So, if you have friends who are interested, please let them know that we’re closing it off Friday so that teams can register before InStep runs out of registrations.

We’ve got a great group of people so far… I think we’re going to have a blast! I’ll be emailing teams this weekend so look for that by 5pm Sunday, Sept. 19th!

Join the FitMilwaukee Indoor Marathon Relay Team

As you may have heard, registration is now open for the InStep Icebreaker Indoor Marathon Relay race on January 22, 2011. Last year, FitMilwaukee had two teams participating and this year we want to blow it out of the frozen water.

Relay teams consist of 2 to 4 runners. The field is limited to 100 teams. Runners will be chip-timed. Relay legs can be any length and we will be using a “tag team format” where you can switch runners as often as you would like. Registration is open: 2011 Instep Icebreaker Indoor Marathon

This race takes place at the Pettit National Ice Center, and has received acclaim from Running Times and has achieved the Boston Marathon standard for qualifying!

Last January, a team of Fit Milwaukee runners joined up to take part in the relay event of the premier indoor marathon in the country!  Check out this video by Jim Raffel:
