Imagine a torture device used in prison to keep inmates in motion, so that their power is harnessed for labor instead of allowing them to lounge around all day. This machine has rotating blades which turn to grind corn or release water, where prisoners spent 8+ hours a day putting their energy to good use. Granted, even powered by hundreds of humans, the machine didn’t power much more than a water wheel would, but the guards were pleased that the prisoners were occupied.
